enclosure.

effect known as diffraction. In normal cabinet construction, sound waves from the drive units radiate toward both the listener and the cabinet edges. If the sound waves meet sharp edges, they re-radiate towards the listener and, due to time delay, interfere with and blur the sound coming directly from the drive unit. Rounding the edges reduces this time smearing, giving you the listener a clearer sound and better defined stereo image.
