Stereo issue 7/1987
 +
At first listening the sound was pleasantly open, transparent and largely free of colouration, without any sharpness. Only a slight dip in the upper midrange sometimes resulted in a somewhat background sound, especially with voices and single instruments. The tendency of very small speakers to sound a bit pressed and strained at high volumes was not present with the JBL. On the contrary, the achievable sound pressure is impressive, only at extremely high volumes the protection circuitry kicks in, but then the sound flattened audibly. Of course, there is also a loss in the bass range, below 100 Hertz there is not much more to do."
