In 1979 James Bongiorno started Sumo Electronics, a company devoted to producing innovative audiophile components. While Sumo was new to the industry, Bongiorno was not. He had a unique hands-on education with some of legends of the industry and was responsible for some of the greatest modern breakthroughs of amplifier design. Bongiorno honed his skill working under Dawson Hadley (Hadley Labs), Sid Smith (Craftsman, Marantz), and Ed Miller (Craftsman, Sherwood, SAE). Bongiorno was chief engineer of Dynaco, SAE and GAS during their hey-day, and also previously worked for Wurlitzer and Marantz, among others.
In the short 14 year lifespan of the Sumo’s history they produced many memorable components that are still sought out by collectors and audiophile around the world. After trying the Sumo Andromeda III amplifier it is very easy to see why.
