[edit] Company profile
Concord started out as an American company manufacturing radios, commonly sold by Lafayette Radio Electronics. In the 50's and 60's the name was mostly associated with tape recorders, first reel to reel and later cassette. Most of these units from this period were made in Japan by Matsushita Electric, the parent company of National Panasonic. These units often had National or Panasonic "twins" as well as having some "twins" bearing the Penncrest (later MCS) name, an audio brand name of the JCPenney chain of stores who bought product from Panasonic.
Concord was distributed in the 60's and early 70's by Benjamin Sound, the company that imported German Elac/Miracord record changers. Around 1972 Concord became part of Epicure, an American speaker manufacturer and later Harman/Kardon in which they solely concentrated on car audio in throughout the 1980's.
