[edit] Description

Despite introducing the multi-award winning DAB300 digital radio tuner, Cambridge Audio has refused to sit on its laurels, refining and evolving its approach to digital radio.

The result is the remote controlled DAB500. The design employs the industry standard Frontier Silicon FS2020 module, though takes in a raft of striking upgrades. These include a superior 24-bit/192kHz digital to analogue converter - with built-in 4x up-sampling - from respected manufacturer Wolfson Microelectronics, separate proprietary DAC and analogue circuit stages employing surface mount technology, high grade polypropylene capacitors, a split power supply feeding the analogue stage.

It also embraces NCT (Natural Contour Technology) which allows the listener to subtly adjust a performance’s timbre, via a three-stage control on the back panel. While Cambridge Audio would always recommend the 'Neutral' setting, users may wish to employ the time domain compensation system to balance out particularly processed broadcasts. The' Lo' setting adds weight and warmth to a performance, while' Hi' will give a fuller, bolder delivery.
